I’m fed up!

That’s it. I’m gonna give myself until Sunday, look at some more places, and if I haven’t found something by then, I’m taking the basement apartment on Palmerston ($700 incl). The pros and cons of this place are as follows:

PROS:
clean ceramic tile throughout
fairly big apartment overall
big bathroom with bathtub
proper kitchen with fridge and stove
big closet in bedroom
utilities included, including cable
great neighbourhood

CONS:
no laundry
landlord lives on main floor- privacy issues? lease agreement states “tenant must agree to not make noise or have visitors after 11pm on week nights”… just the fact that restrictions like that can be made is worrisome to me, but maybe I’m over analyzing.
small-ish bedroom
no cats allowed- this is actually my biggest complaint 😦

So- am I crazy not to jump on this? Meh… I don’t know.

I’m going to look at this place on Gerrard Street right now.

  1. I think it sounds awful! No matter how nice an apartment is if you can’t be yourself in it you’ll never want to be there. How do you think it’ll go over when you want to have a party? She can say that contractually you’re not allowed to make noise after 11pm on weeknights. What about Friday? Sunday? Will you only be allowed to make noise on Saturday night? And do you think she’ll tolerate much? ACK! No loud music? I say… don’t take it. But then again, sometimes you gotta do it. But I year with no music? ouch.

  2. Not one year… if I don’t like it, I just have to give her two months. I think it’ll be okay. I’m going to take it… and then in June, Becky and I might get a place. It’s either that place, or this other one I saw on Manning Street- small SMALL bedroom. Only a bed could fit in, and it’s just a nook off the kitchen. OR- that loft apartment on Gerrard. But I don’t really want to be in the east end. MAN… I don’t know what to do.

  3. I tried the “live with landlord with built-in-restrictions about guests and noise” in university – never again. It also didn’t help in that they were cheapskates…

  4. There is lots of great information on the < HREF="http://www.ontariotenants.ca" REL="nofollow" TITLE="Ontario tenants rights">Ontario Tenants Rights<> website and their < HREF="http://toronto.ontariotenants.ca" REL="nofollow" TITLE="Toronto rental apartments">Toronto apartments<> community directory.
